U-TURN er Københavns første kvadrionale for Samtidskunst. De laver en række seminarer, der leder op til og giver en forforståelse af, hvor samtidskunsten bevæger sig hen. Den 26. januar sætter U-TURN fokus på performativitet og renenactment i samtidskunsten under overskriften: "Repetitions are a possibility to change things - history is alive!"

Programmet er på engelsk og er kurateret og modereret af U-TURN.

11.00am Opening and Introduction
Opening of the event by Henriette Bretton-Meyer. Followed by an introduction by U-TURN.
Performativity and re-enactment is one of the three areas of research for the upcoming quadrennial exhibition. - Why? by Solvej Helweg Ovesen co-curator at U-TURN Quadrennial for Contemporary Art.

11.15am Inke Arns: "History Will Repeat Itself - Strategies of Re-enactment in Contemporary Art"
Curator and author Inke Arns, who recently curated the exhibition "History Will Repeat Itself" at HMKV, Dortmund and Kunstwerke, Berlin, talks about the different re-enactment strategies in relation to performance, happening, and historical events in the light of the mediation and documentation of these diverse events.

12.00pm Irina Botea: "Auditions for a Revolution", video (16 mmfilm transferred to DVD), 24 min., Chicago, 2006
In her film piece "Auditions for a Revolution", Irina Botea investigates the possibility of recreating or reacting scenes from the Romanian Revolution in 1989, one of the first revolutions to be publicized and controlled by the media.

12.30pm Dora Garcia, by Jan Mech: "Just because everything is different it does not mean that anything has changed: the essential Lenny Bruce"
Duration: 2 hours
Dora Garcia is an artist and this project is an homage to the American stand-up comedian Lenny Bruce. The actor Jan Mech re-enacts and reads Lenny Bruce jokes, one joke after another.
Visitors can move freely in the space.

14.30pm Camilla Jalving: "Never say never again: On re-enactment as artistic strategy within contemporary visual art"
Camilla Jalving holds a Ph.D. in Art History from University of Copenhagen, on performative contemporary art. In her contribution "Never Say Never Again" Camilla Jalving seeks to define the essence of a re-enactment.

15.15pm Dmitry Vilensky: "Actualisation of the missing events. Perestroika. The case of Next Stop Soviet"
Dmitry Vilensky is an artist and part of the artist group Chto detat?/What is to be done? In relation to a residency in Copenhagen in fall 2007 the group is working on a context specific art work, which investigates the Scandinavian phenomenon 'Next-Stop Soviet' and Russia during the time of the Perestroika reforms. Dmitry Vilensky talks about the project and the unfulfilled events from the time when 'Next stop' was realised.

15.45pm Performance: Roi Vaara, "Spiral"
Roi Vaara is a performance artist, born in Norway, living in Finland. Roi Vaara is Scandinavia's most acclaimed performance artist internationally. He is performing a piece called "Spiral", in which he writes on the floor in a spiral. The words form a chain of associations relating to existential questions in connection to recent historical events and dates. In the end Roi Vaara frees himself from the spiral though a transformative act.

16.15pm Film "September 11, 1973_Santiago de Chile 2007" (2007) by Melik Ohanian
The French artist Melik Ohanian juxtaposes his recent video recordings from Santiago de Chile opposite the soundtrack from the Chilean documentary film maker Patricio Guzmán's film "The Battle of Chile" (1976). The artistic space of illusions created between sound and picture makes way for a new way of thinking, and perhaps even re-inscribe important historical events in the presence.
